Yamamoto Teruji's mother, a tailor in Tokyo, began helping her mother with tailoring when he was young. After graduating from law school he went to Europe and stayed in Paris for some time. When he returned to Japan, he was determined not to let others see himself as the next man, because he had realized that costume design could be a creative art just like painting.
Yamamoto Teruji set up his own studio and was recognized as a representative of the avant-garde in the mid - 70s. Not only that, he often meets another pioneer, Wakubo Rei, and falls into a long drawn out Platon romance.
Founded the Yamamoto Teruji design studio in Tokyo, has a small reputation in Tokyo and the world, and opens boutiques in Paris.
A series of costumes for the French fashion style in 50s inspired his admirers. Paris autumn fashion conference, Yamamoto had let the catwalk bride, shoes, gloves, and pulled out a bouquet from the wedding dress in the zip pocket. He also recreate the Titanic female passengers wearing hats.
